This site is nutz!

I sign up for alot of these weekly email newsletters. I know it's silly, but i have an email address specifically for them and sometimes I end up liking what they send. One of them is called www.like.com. This week I am in search of a rain coat (like the ones we wore when we were kids).

Like.com aggregates styles from all different sites and puts it all together for you to browse in one place. I'm telling you, it's crazy. THEN, if you find something you like, you hit the button "visual search" and it will find all of the items that are like that from different retailers. Love it. Needless to say, I found my yellow rain coat. Not exactly like the kiddo version, but it will work.

Swap Night

(I didn't have a pic with ALL of us in it, so here is a link to Rene's BEAUTIFUL wedding pics!)

Every Wednesday night, a few of my best girls and I have "girls night". We basically just get together to connect and share our lives. It's always a highlight of my week and I leave fully refreshed and thankful for my great friends. Last night we had our second "swap". We started early and had a killer meal (butternut squash soup, couscous, beer bread) and then all brought stuff to swap (clothes, books, accessories, etc). we all left with something "new" and a good time was had by all. I am always amazed at how talented, creative and beautiful these girls are…I love you guys!

One of my New Years resolutions for the year, is WEAR WHAT I HAVE. I have tons of clothes, and probably wear only 20% of them. Sooooo, this year, I'll be trying really hard to buy less new stuff and get creative with what I have in my closet. That said, I'll be posting a few of my "creative looks" here and there to see if I can spark your creativity too.

Let's hear it for the girls!

Winnie, Melissa and Megan all have blogs…I'm tellin' ya, CRAZY talented!

Killer boots man

One of the things that I think it's ok to spend a little bit more on, is a good pair of boots. They go with everything and always look chic. Here is a lovely pair of grey suede boots for under $100! They come in 5 different colors, but I love the grey. Winterize a summer look by adding tights/leggings and a turtleneck under a summer dress.

Item of the week: The Blazer

A nicely fitted blazer is definitely a must have. It's a great way to dress up a pair of jeans, or add some edge to a basic dress. Add some cute accessories and chic shoes, and you are ready to go. Here are some great options at a few different price points.

So in love…

So I've had a good excuse for not posting in a while. Our beautiful son Noah West Showell was born on Sunday, November 15th and has been keeping us quite busy! He is such a joy and is already showing traits of both his mom and his dad. He got a bit of his mom's impatience, as he was in quite a hurry to get here! We checked into the hospital at 8:15pm, and he arrived just 2 1/2 hours later! He is also much like his dad in that he is a chill baby, only fussing when he really needs something. While it comes with its challenges, we are truly enjoying getting the hang of this parenting thing. Thanks to all of our friends and family who have given us so much love and support during this time!!

This photo was taken by Michael behind the scenes during Noah's first photo shoot with Melissa (Soulmates Photo).

Organizational Bliss

The Container Store is brilliant. Seriously. In my work we are always starting projects with the consumer in mind…exploring who they are, what they love and really trying to get to know who they are. Whoever thought up the Container Store really knew their target consumer!

While I wouldn’t put myself on the far end of the organization scale, I do love to have things nice and purty, all in their place. I took a trip there today and found myself buying all kinds of things that I “needed” (but just didn’t know it): a belt organizer, cedar hangers to make my closets smell fresh and adhesive hooks to organize my necklaces.

Actually, one of the things that I find is that people that have too much clutter and disorganization in their closets have a harder time putting nice outfits together (or take much longer to do so!). Too many choices are just frustrating and usually leads to just pulling out the things that are your “go to’s”. Not always a problem, unless your go to's are boring or unflattering.

Plan some time on a weekend to clear out that mess! If you have not worn it in 6 months to a year, chances are you are never going to. Get rid of it and take it to charity! If getting rid of it is too hard for you, take a baby step and put all of that stuff in the basement for 6 months. If you don’t miss it in another 6 months…it’s time to go. While it seems simple, organization really is a big step towards getting that style in check. So if it’s the Container store or just a trip into the Goodwill, get organized!
